The Orchestral Hergest Ridge - Live marks the first official release of the historic 1974 Royal Albert Hall performance of David Bedford's orchestral arrangement of Mike Oldfield's Hergest Ridge. This performance is notably unique in the Oldfield discography as the composer refused to participate, leading to Steve Hillage filling the guitar role. The recording was originally broadcast by the BBC on January 18, 1975. The release also features a rare, star-studded live rendition of Tubular Bells Part 1, recorded for the BBC's Second House television programme in November 1973. This archival performance captures an extraordinary supergroup of progressive rock luminaries, including members of Henry Cow, Soft Machine, and Gong.
