Man In The Rain

I need help, and I need it so badly.

The thing is that, for the past 2 years I’ve spent my time planning my project to umpix everything I can find from Mike Oldfield’s music into 5.1 DTS. For 2 years I was collecting Mike’s albums and learned how to do proper DTS upmix. The final stage of the product will be DVD-Audio from every album, and of course everything there is to be found about great Mike. DVDs will be with full motion manus, and song lyrics will be displayed during the each song. Maybe this is to much ambicious project, but, the thing is that when it comes to Mike, his music is like a bible to me! Like a religion! And I spent past two years learning Audio & Video editing, how to produce special effects and much more. Now I know all and there is a few thing I need. I need those collaborations that you guys have here. I don’t have enough credits to collect them all, and I’m not sure how the whole thing about credits goes. That is my problem for now. Can somebody please help me? And I think that I need allot of credits for that, but hey, you are the only ones that can help me, so I must ask you for help…

Thanks in advance

Oldfield's music is the soundtrack of my life

The credit thing on this website is easy, all it requires is participation...the more you participate the more credits you earn. These credits can be used on a weekly basis, and are replenished once a week. You have to use your credits in order to get them replaced they do not accumulate. Many of us who post do not use our credits on a weekly basis , we may distribute these credits to those who ask for them if this is used for personal use. It would be also advised that once you have created these upmix versions you make them available to this website.

So how to participate...post pictures, articles, reviews, videos of Mike Oldfield or related....and post and participatein the forum, thousands of subjects await your participation, from the simplistic "what are you listening to right now?" to elaborate analysis of Oldfield songs or techniques.

enjoy and collect credits.

Hi Maca,

As you should know if you have studied sound engineering, mp3 compressed files are useless to work with - it's a waste of time working with compressed files for such an ambitious project. The files hosted in this site are collected for personal, home and low-quality use, indeed.

I do recommend you to join btt.oldfield.es - there you will find plenty of MO videos and audios in FLAC lossless quality you can work with.

About 5.1 DTS mixes... it's almost an uncanny work unless you have the original masters. You might create nice resampled and rechanneled 5.1 mixes, but those will be fake 5.1 versions as the source will be an standard Stereo recording.

It's a massive work and we all will be glad if you can work them out.

Hi Crises,

Yeah,

You are right, the MP3s are very bad source, and the final product is not satisfying. MP3 removes allot from original WAV or FLAC, no matter, and that is the main reason why it is not recommended to use them in conversions. I agree with you totally with that. All the albums that I have are FLAC, lossless ripped from the originals, that is the first thing that I made sure of. In studying of stereo to DTS 5.1 upmixing, I found some guys who developed some of the nicest plug-ins for separation and stereo & mono enhancement. I can proudly say that these guys were more than happy to show me how from the simple stereo source, with tons of plug-ins and processors you can make your 6 mono channels, and not loss anything along the way. They made DTS upmix from Platinum part I, and the thing blowed my mind, because that sounded almost as good as my Tubular Bells 2003 DVD-A disc. That’s right almost as good as if they made it from original masters, because, that is only thing that could be more perfect than this method. So I said, why that couldn’t be done with all of Oldfield’s work.? He is my God, and my Demon, did I said that?  During past two years I was sick of fake 5.1 upmixes, because they were awful, and I was almost given up, but then these guys showed up, and they helped me, as they know me since ever! Sadly some of the things are to rare to find (like these collaborations for example), and even when I find them they are in MP3. So what can I do, I don’t have a choice than to use them. With certain enhancements, plug-ins, and good will, you could do wonderful things with them. Of course at the end it’s not FLAC, but common, the human ear… If you do not know for better… ‘Till yesterday, the only thing I had was low-end MP3, but today…

Wow, I didn’t expect such admiration from you guys. I am very surprised, and pleased. I never thought that anybody would be interested in my project, but then again, I stand amazed. Mike Oldfield and his magic were always and always will be in every major part of my life. What can I say, even on my wedding, ‘Tubular Bells’ has been played. That was of course my wife’s idea. She knows how much I love Mike’s work, so that was present and she made me very happy guy. We even made 3 DVD collection with both games, of which the first ‘Tr3s Lunas’, she bayed for me when we first met. I’ve always think of Mike like my personal soundtrack, and I absolutely worship everything he does. So, thank you guys. It is nice to know that you liked my project…

Man In The Rain

Hi, I posted this also in the English section, just to stay in topic.

O.K. so this is my plan: Considering that there is allot of it from Mike I will convert, and I’m really sick of numerous titles, I will concentrate on official titles, but of course all of them will be extended with any material there is, that was done by Mike in that period of time. So they will be massive albums. All of them extended. Second, numerous remixes, interviews, different versions will also be included. So like I sad it will be massive! Now I have one question for you guys. Given that my favorite is Mike’s long sections, I was thinking to drop the whole concept of like gazillion versions of one song alone, and join together all in one track. For example, there is really many versions of ‘Far Above The Clouds’ (you know from singles, and stuff), so I think that it would be better for them to be joined in one long track that would be more powerful, because you’ll not have feeling that they repeat themselves. I’ve done it already with some of the ‘Enigma’ tracks, and result is so good. At least I love it. Tracks mixed in that way, with of course no disrupting song flow in any way sounds like those long experimenting sections that Mike given us in the seventies and then again in nineties, that we all loved. So my question is what you think about that? I’m now at the very beginning of processing ‘Children of the Sun’. Although there is just one track I could not find to complete albums reissue from 2002. The song is called ‘Twilight Song’ and I could not find it anywhere! Its killing me! There is one more I could not find, it is not from the album, but was done by ‘Sallyangie’, and that other one is called ‘My Moon Shines So Softly’. So that’s it and I’m waiting for your opinions. Oh, yeah, and another thing, I’m out of credits again. Will it be too much for me to ask for more, or I should wait next week to gain some of my own?
